Warrior Basketball Earns Three CCC Player of the Week Honors

CORVALLIS, OR – LC State Basketball dominated with three of four Cascade Conference McDonald’s Player of the Week honors, presented by Urban Edge Network, on Monday after a combined four victories over the weekend. The No. 15 Warrior women swept women’s basketball honors with Sitara Byrd as the Offensive Player of the Week and Darian Herring as the Defensive Player of the Week, while Grayson Hunt was tabbed the men’s basketball Defensive Player of the Week.

GRAYSON HUNT – MEN’S BASKETBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Hunt nearly averaged a double-double with 10 rebounds and 9.5 points per game to help (RV) LC State to two wins over the weekend. He grabbed a career-best 12 rebounds against Bushnell (Ore.) and added eight against Corban (Ore.). Hunt’s rebounds, blocks and steals led directly to 16 points. He led a defense that held both opponents under 70 points.

 

This is the first weekly honor of Hunt’s career.

SITARA BYRD – WOMEN’S BASKETBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Byrd had a huge weekend that featured the 1,000th points of her career. The senior averaged 18 points and eight rebounds per game with a 54.2% shooting mark from the field. She scored a game-high 26 points against No. 18 Corban (Ore.) to secure the victory and notched a double-double with 11 rebounds. Byrd dished out six assists over the weekend and her assists, blocks, rebounds and steals led directly to 21 points.

 

This is the first weekly honor for Byrd this season and fourth of her career.

DARIAN HERRING – WOMEN’S BASKETBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Herring secured the 500th rebound of her career on Friday and averaged a double-double over the weekend. The junior averaged 13 points and 11.5 rebounds per game, including 15 rebounds against Bushnell (Ore.). She blocked three shots, had two steals and dished out six assists. Herring’s defense led directly to nine points.

 

This is Herring’s third weekly honor of the season and fifth of her career.
