Asotin County deputies seek public help in animal cruelty investigation

ASOTIN COUNTY, WA— The Asotin County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance as deputies investigate a reported case of animal cruelty involving an injured puppy.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were dispatched on January 12, 2026, to the 9100 block of Peola Road after receiving a report of a hurt puppy. Investigators determined the dog had been shot multiple times with a BB gun.

The puppy was taken to Riverview Veterinary Clinic, where veterinary staff treated the animal for numerous BB and pellet wounds. Veterinarians also noted injuries consistent with strangulation. While the puppy is expected to recover, one pellet lodged in the dog’s head cannot be safely removed.

The incident is being investigated as animal cruelty. Authorities are asking anyone with information related to the case to contact the Asotin County Sheriff’s Office at 509-243-4717 and reference case number 26A00160.

Undersheriff Blake Richards said cruelty to animals will not be tolerated and encouraged community members to come forward with any information that may help identify those responsible.
