LEWISTON, ID – A woman already in custody at the Nez Perce County Adult Detention Center has been charged with felony aggravated assault following an alleged inmate-on-inmate attack earlier this month.
According to an affidavit filed in Nez Perce County District Court, Martha E.A. Ivey, 30, is accused of assaulting another inmate inside of the detention center on the evening of January 9, 2026.
Detention staff were alerted to a possible physical altercation at approximately 7:22 p.m. after the alleged victim approached staff and reported she had just been assaulted. Deputies escorted the inmate to booking, where she was placed under observation and photographed due to her injuries. The inmate later indicated she wished to pursue charges, court documents state.
Investigators with the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office reported that Ivey was interviewed on January 12, 2026, while being held at the facility as an Idaho Department of Correction inmate awaiting transport to continue serving a previously imposed sentence related to a conviction for possession of methamphetamine.
During the interview, Ivey was advised of her Miranda rights and acknowledged she was likely facing a new charge, according to the affidavit. Investigators say Ivey admitted to pulling the other inmate from a top bunk—approximately five feet off the ground—by her hair and kicking her while she was on the floor. She reportedly stated she acted alone and described the assault as similar to “UFC”-style fighting.
Photos were taken of both the alleged victim’s injuries and Ivey’s right foot, which investigators noted showed bruising consistent with kicking. Surveillance video, inmate interviews, and visitation recordings were also collected as evidence.
Ivey was charged with felony aggravated assault. She is expected to make her initial court appearance for the charge on Tuesday afternoon.
