One Killed After Semi-Truck Trailer Becomes Detached in Southern Idaho

POCATELLO, ID — Idaho State Police is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred early Tuesday morning near Pocatello.

According to ISP, the crash happened at approximately 3:54 a.m. on January 13 on U.S. Highway 30 at milepost 332. A white 2024 Freightliner semi-truck traveling eastbound was hauling a single trailer when the trailer became disconnected and came to rest in the westbound lane.

A 52-year-old man driving a silver Mercury Grand Marquis westbound on U.S. 30 struck the stationary trailer. The driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene. ISP reported the driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The semi-truck was occupied by a 20-year-old man from Pocatello and a 24-year-old man from Idaho Falls. No injuries were reported in the semi-truck.

The crash occurred in Bannock County, and lanes of travel were blocked for approximately six hours while emergency crews responded and investigators worked at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by Idaho State Police.
