LEWISTON, ID— Air travelers who arrive at airport security checkpoints without a REAL ID or another acceptable form of identification will have a new option beginning Feb. 1, according to a public notice shared by Transportation Security Administration and posted by Lewiston Nez Perce County Airport.

Under the new program, called TSA ConfirmID, travelers who do not have compliant identification may pay a $45 fee in advance to complete an alternative identity verification process that allows them to proceed through security and fly .

TSA officials say the option is intended for passengers who arrive without a REAL ID or other acceptable identification, such as a passport, and still need to travel. The fee is designed to ensure that the additional screening costs are covered by the traveler rather than taxpayers.

Passengers who use TSA ConfirmID will be subject to additional identity verification and screening measures, and the process may take up to 30 minutes, according to the agency. Travelers who arrive at checkpoints without compliant identification and have not already paid the fee may experience longer delays that could result in missed flights.

To use the option, travelers must pay the $45 fee online through the TSA ConfirmID portal before arriving at the airport. At the checkpoint, they must present the payment receipt—either printed or on a mobile device—along with any government-issued identification they do have, and follow instructions from TSA officers.

TSA continues to urge travelers to obtain a REAL ID or ensure they have another acceptable form of identification before traveling to avoid delays. A full list of approved identification documents is available through TSA, and travelers can verify whether their driver’s license is REAL ID–compliant through their state Department of Motor Vehicles.

The REAL ID enforcement date for airport security checkpoints remains in effect, and TSA officials emphasize that TSA ConfirmID is optional and intended as an alternative for travelers who arrive without compliant identification.
