WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Mike Crapo announced the nomination of 40 Idaho students for admission to the nation’s U.S. military service academies for the 2026 academic year.
The nominations include one student from Orofino: Declan Crockett, who was nominated to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. The remaining nominees represent communities across Idaho.
The service academies will now review applications and make final decisions on appointments. A nomination does not guarantee admission.
“It is a privilege to nominate young Idahoans with an admirable willingness to serve their country to pursue higher education at one of our nation’s premier military academies,” Crapo said in a written statement.

Each year, members of Congress nominate students to four of the nation’s service academies. The academies then select candidates for appointment from those nominated. Students must meet academic, physical, and character requirements as part of the process.
