North Idaho man Gets 15 Year Prison Sentence for Road Rage and DUI Incident

POST FALLS, ID – A north Idaho man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison following a road rage incident in May 2025 that endangered a plain clothes detective and other drivers.

55-year-old Jonathan David Manning, of Post Falls, was convicted of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon enhancement after a two-day jury trial in November 2025. The charge stemmed from an incident on May 22, 2025, when Manning drove erratically near Ironwood Drive and US 95, including swerving, unsafe lane changes, and cutting off other vehicles.

A plain clothes detective, driving an unmarked vehicle, observed Manning’s behavior and attempted to locate him in a parking lot. Manning allegedly drove toward the detective at a high rate of speed and then exited his vehicle, approaching the detective while yelling. Manning was detained.

A blood sample later confirmed Manning allegedly had methamphetamine in his system at the time of the incident. He had previously pleaded guilty to a DUI charge related to the event. Manning’s criminal history includes three prior DUI convictions in 1993, 1999, and 2007.

At sentencing on January 13, District Judge Ross Pittman imposed a 15-year sentence for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon enhancement, with parole eligibility after five years. After the sentence was pronounced, Manning reportedly directed a vulgar remark at the detective present in the courtroom.

The Kootenai County Prosecutor’s Office thanked Criminal Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Laura McClinton, Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Melody McCombs, and the Coeur d’Alene Police Department for their work on the case.
