Expired plates stop near Lowell end with drug, firearm arrests

LOWELL, ID — Two people were arrested late Sunday night following a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 12 in Idaho County that led to multiple alleged drug and firearm-related offenses, according to the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said an Idaho County deputy was conducting traffic safety enforcement at approximately 11:18 p.m. on January 18 when a red SUV was stopped near milepost 97 for expired license plates.

During the stop, a K9 unit identified as Millie arrived on scene and reportedly alerted on the vehicle, authorities said.

Elizabeth Joyce, 56, was arrested on a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine, along with misdemeanor charges for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Wayne Metzger, 61, was arrested on a felony charge of unlawful possession of a firearm, as well as misdemeanor charges for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
