PULLMAN, WA — Washington State University Libraries opened a new Synth Lab on Thursday, Jan. 22, with a reception held in the Holland Library’s first-floor Dimensions Lab.
The reservable lab provides electronic music production equipment and is available to Pullman students, faculty, and staff. According to the libraries, the Synth Lab can be booked in four-hour sessions beginning Jan. 23 and is open to users regardless of departmental affiliation.
The opening reception featured demonstrations by members of the WSU Digital Audio Collective, who introduced available equipment such as synthesizers, keyboards, samplers, drum machines, and recording tools. The group is expected to offer future workshops to help users learn how to operate the equipment and understand recording and sound design processes.
The Synth Lab was funded through a $30,436 award from the university’s Student Technology Fee Committee and builds on the libraries’ earlier Audio Lab, which opened in 2022.
