Suspicious Vehicle Call Near Colfax Leads to Arrest of Man Accused of Stealing Motorhome, Driving Stolen Car

COLFAX, WA — A report of a suspicious vehicle outside of Colfax early Friday morning led to the arrest of a western Washington man on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, according to the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched around 6:30 a.m. Jan. 23 to a residence off State Route 26 after a property owner reported an unfamiliar vehicle parked behind a shop with its engine running. When deputies arrived, the vehicle was still running and unoccupied.

While deputies were on scene, they observed an individual inside the property owner’s motorhome allegedly attempting to start and drive the vehicle away. Deputies contacted the individual, who exited the motorhome and was taken into custody without incident.

The vehicle found running behind the shop was later determined to have been reported stolen out of Seattle, authorities said.

Ahmed Ahmed, 38, of Auburn, Washington, was arrested and booked into the Whitman County Jail. He faces charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, first-degree vehicle prowl, third-degree malicious mischief, second-degree criminal trespass and third-degree theft.

The incident remains under investigation.
