MOSCOW, ID – Warrior Track and Field continued its outing at Idaho’s Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open on Friday. Perry Severijnse concluded the first multi of his career, and multiple LC State athletes had personal-bests on the day.
“Pretty pleased with how things have gone today,” coach Mike Collins said. “Really need to shake some of the rust off from Christmas break. It is tough to spend that time away from coaching and training before getting back together and competing as quickly as we do, but I think the kids came out and really performed well and we’re excited at where we’re at right now. A lot of the kids are way ahead of where they normally are at this time of the year when it comes to our returners. Women throwers looked exceptionally good today with some PRs, and a couple making the finals is real exciting there. We’ll come back tomorrow with a lot of athletes competing in their second event. We’ll see how well they recover tonight going in tomorrow, and that’ll help us better prepare next week.”
Severijnse finished ninth in the first heptathlon of his career with 3,584 points. He placed sixth in the pole vault (3.10m), eighth in the 60m hurdles (9.58) and 10th in the 1,000m (3:16.71).
