Burning Tree Sparks Response From Local Fire Crews

NEZ PERCE COUNTY, ID – Fire crews responded to a report of a tree fire along Webb Road Tuesday evening near Mile Marker 3.

According to Nez Perce County Fire, the call came in at approximately 5:30 p.m. Nez Perce County Fire was assisted at the scene by the Lapwai Fire Department.

When crews arrived, they found two slash piles burning along with a dead tree at the edge of the piles. Fire officials described the tree as burning intensely and throwing sparks “like a Roman candle.” A private contractor attempted to push the dead tree over but was only able to knock down the top 10 feet.

Firefighters applied water to remove the hazard caused by the tree.

Nez Perce County Fire responded with two brush trucks, a tactical tender, and six personnel. Lapwai Fire assisted with a chief’s vehicle and one firefighter.

No injuries were reported.
