MOSCOW, ID – Latah County has launched an online survey regarding a possible new local jail in Idaho.
The Latah County Sheriff’s Office Jail in Moscow failed an inspection in the fall of 2024. The facility was built in 1972 and no longer met jail standards. Since last fall local Idaho jail inmates have been transported to the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office Jail in Lewiston. The jail in Moscow is currently only used when an inmate needs to be held in custody locally.
In the fall of 2024 Latah County officials stated it would cost about 13 million dollars to fix the jail. At that time officials believed it would cost about the same to build a new facility.
The online survey informs the public about the jail situation and asks for feedback about possible solutions and funding sources for a new facility. You can find the survey here
