Medical cannabis initiative reports more than 45,000 signatures toward 2026 ballot

BOISE, ID — The Natural Medicine Alliance of Idaho announced Friday that it has collected more than 45,000 signatures in support of placing the Idaho Medical Cannabis Act on the November 2026 general election ballot.

To qualify for the ballot, the initiative must gather signatures from at least 6% of registered voters statewide, based on the most recent general election. The measure must also meet the same 6% threshold in at least 18 of Idaho’s 35 legislative districts. All signatures must be submitted by April 30.

According to the organization, signature gatherers are working across the state, including door-to-door canvassing, high-traffic public areas and community events. NMAI said signature totals are increasing week over week as more volunteers and paid canvassers join the effort.

The proposed Idaho Medical Cannabis Act would allow physician-guided access to medical cannabis for patients with certain serious medical conditions, including chronic pain, cancer and post-traumatic stress disorder. The measure includes regulatory requirements for the dispensing, storage, distribution and sale of medical cannabis.

NMAI also cited results from a survey it commissioned indicating strong statewide support for legalizing medical cannabis. According to the group, the survey found 83% of likely voters support medical cannabis legalization, including 74% of Republican voters.

If the initiative qualifies, voters will decide on the measure during the November 2026 election.
