LEWISTON, ID — A 35-year-old Lewiston man died Tuesday evening following what authorities say was an apparent suicide connected to an ongoing investigation.
According to a press release from the Lewiston Police Department, detectives went to a residence in the 1200 block of Powers Avenue at about 5:18 p.m. on February 3 in an attempt to contact the man regarding the investigation. Officers were unable to locate him at the home but remained in the area and attempted to reach him by phone.
Shortly after leaving a voicemail, detectives reported hearing a single gunshot coming from the property.
The Lewiston Police Department’s Regional SWAT Team was deployed, and officers later located the man outside at the rear of the property. Investigators determined he had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Police said the incident remains under investigation, but initial findings indicate no threat to the public.
