COEUR D’ALENE, ID – An Idaho man has been sentenced to prison following a felony attempted strangulation conviction and a related probation violation.
Michael Adam Bounds, 49, was sentenced Thursday in Kootenai County District Court to 14 years in prison with parole eligibility after four years for attempted strangulation. The court also revoked Bounds’ probation in a separate felony case and imposed the sentence in that matter.
According to prosecutors, the conviction stems from a Dec. 29, 2025, incident involving a former significant other. Court records state the incident began as a verbal altercation before Bounds choked or strangled the victim and made additional threats. Attempted strangulation is a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison under Idaho law.
At the time of the offense, Bounds was on felony probation for possession of a controlled substance. Prosecutors said his criminal history spans more than three decades and includes convictions for theft, possession of stolen property, trespass, harassment, forgery, criminal impersonation, unlawful possession of a firearm, interference with reporting domestic violence, assault, DUI, possession of a stolen vehicle, and trafficking in stolen property.
Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kyle Singleton recommended a 14-year prison sentence with parole eligibility after four years for the attempted strangulation charge, along with revocation of probation in the prior case. The court adopted that recommendation.
The Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office credited Singleton for prosecuting the case and the Coeur d’Alene Police Department for investigating the incident.
