CLARKSTON, WA – Authorities say a fraud investigation involving stolen business checks has led to criminal charges against three suspects, with one man already in custody and arrest warrants issued for the other two.
According to court documents filed in Asotin County Superior Court, 35-year-old Matthew T.D. Fronk was arrested last Friday and booked into the Asotin County Jail on charges of second-degree identity theft, second-degree theft and forgery.
The case stems from an investigation that began Aug. 1, 2025, when Lewiston police responded to a fraud report involving K and G Construction in Lewiston. The business owner reported receiving a call from Banner Bank in Moscow, Idaho, alerting her that someone was attempting to cash a $4,300 check drawn on her business account. That is when the business owner discovered the company’s checkbook had been stolen.
Lewiston Police investigated the report and, through bank records and surveillance footage, identified three suspects — Fronk and two other suspects — who allegedly cashed stolen checks in the Clarkston area.
Investigators allege one suspect cashed a check for $937.08 at Lewis-Clark Credit Union, Fronk cashed a check for $973.87 at Banner Bank, and a third suspect cashed a check for $2,256.31 at Banner Bank. All of the transactions occurred in the city of Clarkston, according to court documents.
Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Jaime K. Young wrote in a declaration filed Feb. 4 that probable cause exists to charge all three suspects with identity theft, forgery, possession of stolen property and financial fraud. The filing states none of the suspects were employees of K and G Construction and investigators believe they knowingly possessed and cashed stolen checks made out in the company’s name.
Court documents note that law enforcement had difficulty locating the suspects during the investigation, prompting prosecutors to request arrest warrants. While Fronk has since been taken into custody, arrest warrants remain active for Carisa Fowler and April Gustafson, authorities said.
