Pullman School Board Being Asked To Consider Extending Contract With Superintendent Dr. Bob Maxwell

PULLMAN, WA – The Pullman School Board is once again being asked to consider extended their contract with Superintendent Dr. Bob Maxwell to keep him on the job through 2029.

A year ago, the school board was set to extend Maxwell’s contract through 2028 with a consent agenda vote. That vote last year was set to be conducted without discussion and was considered routine in nature. Several Pullman School Board Trustees objected to that routine in nature treatment for extending the superintendent’s contract.

The former President of the Board, Nathan Roberts, moved it to the regular agenda for further discussion. The Pullman School Board ended up voting four to one to extend Maxwell’s contract through 2028. Trustee Craig Nelson voted against keeping Maxwell on for another year.

The agenda item has returned to the Pullman School Board for their meeting this week. Unlike last year, this potential contract extension will be presented to trustees as a regular agenda, formal discussion item. The proposal calls for Maxwell’s contract to be extended by one year through 2029. The trustees are set to only discuss the proposal Wednesday night before possibly voting on the extension at their next meeting. The Pullman School Board meets Wednesday night at 6:30 at the high school.

This year’s five-member Pullman School Board has two new trustees. Deena Bayoumi and Stephanie Horn joined the board at the start of the year after winning election last fall. Two of the four trustees who voted to extend Maxwell’s contract last year, Nathan Roberts and Amanda Tanner, are no longer on the board.
