WSU Students’ Dangerous Football Victory Couch Fires Tradition Shifts To Seahawks Following Super Bowl Win

PULLMAN, WA – Washington State University students’ dangerous tradition of burning couches to celebrate football victories shifted to the Seahawks on Sunday night.

City of Pullman Firefighters responded to two couches that were set on fire in streets near campus following Seattle’s Super Bowl win over the Patriots. The last College Hill couch fires came in November of 2024 following a Cougar football home win over Utah State.

The City of Pullman’s Firefighters Union posted a warning about football victory couch fires on their Facebook page Sunday morning. It reminded the public that burning couches is not a harmless tradition. The firefighters pointed out that they quickly overwhelm emergency crews.

That potentially dangerous scenario played out Sunday night as Pullman Firefighters responded to a small attic fire near the end of the Super Bowl.
