BOISE, ID — Idaho Fish and Game conservation officers are asking for the public’s help following three separate incidents in which mule deer were shot and left to waste in southwest Idaho.
According to Idaho Fish and Game’s Southwest Region, the cases involve two deer killed during closed season and one deer shot during an open season but not retrieved.
Arrowrock Reservoir incident
Officers reported that a 2×3 mule deer buck was shot out of season sometime between Jan. 30 and Jan. 31 near Arrowrock Reservoir.
The deer, which was shot in the head, was found just off Cottonwood Canyon Creek Road on a hillside south of the Irish Creek campsite. The animal was left to waste.
Owyhee County incident
In a separate case, a 4×4 mule deer buck was shot around Dec. 26 in a remote alfalfa field near Grand View in Owyhee County.
Investigators believe the deer was likely shot at night. The animal was also left to waste.
Robie Creek Road incident
A third case involves a 4×4 mule deer buck shot with archery equipment around Nov. 10 along Robie Creek Road during an open season.
Based on evidence at the scene, officers said they do not believe the deer’s death was the result of wounding loss. Investigators have reason to believe the shooter knew the deer had expired and failed to retrieve it, leaving the meat to waste.
Fish and Game officials are encouraging anyone with information about any of the incidents to contact the Southwest Regional Office at 208-465-8465 or call the Citizens Against Poaching hotline at 1-800-632-5999. Tips can also be submitted online.
