AAA: Idaho Gas Prices Climb but Remain Below $3 for Now

BOISE, ID – Gas prices in Idaho are on the rise, though drivers are still paying less than they were a year ago, according to AAA Idaho.

AAA reports that the average price for a gallon of regular fuel in Idaho is $2.94 as of February 16. That is five cents more than a week ago and 18 cents higher than a month ago, but 28 cents cheaper than this time last year .

The national average sits at $2.93 per gallon, up three cents from a week ago and nine cents from a month ago, yet 23 cents lower than a year ago . Idaho now ranks 14th in the nation for the most expensive fuel, up from 23rd place just a couple of weeks ago .

“Crude oil prices continue their roller coaster ride and may keep pump prices below the $3 mark this week, but there’s always the potential for a surge in demand that drives prices higher,” said AAA Idaho Public Affairs Director Matthew Conde . He noted that January saw minimal price movement, but activity has increased in recent weeks .

According to the Energy Information Administration, crude oil stocks increased by eight million barrels, while gasoline supplies rose by two million barrels. Gasoline demand remained steady compared to the previous week . Increased supply could help ease upward pressure on prices in the near term.

West Texas Intermediate crude is currently trading near $64 per barrel, roughly unchanged from a week ago but about $6 higher than a month ago .
