SPOKANE, WA – A 48-year-old Spokane man died early Sunday morning after jumping from a bridge at the westbound Interstate 90 off-ramp to Hamilton Street, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Troopers were dispatched at 4:57 a.m. on Sunday to the area of I-90 westbound at milepost 281 in the city of Spokane for a report of a crash and a man sitting on the edge of a bridge.
According to the Washington State Patrol press memo, the man was the driver of a vehicle initially involved in a non-injury collision at the westbound I-90 off-ramp to Hamilton Street. The report states the vehicle had been traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes prior to the collision.
After the crash, the man exited his vehicle and sat on the edge of the bridge. Multiple witnesses attempted to lure him away from the edge but were unsuccessful. He jumped from the bridge and was later pronounced deceased at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation.
