Colfax Police Begin Crackdown on Derelict, Abandoned Vehicles

COLFAX, WA – The Colfax Police Department is cracking down on vehicles being stored on city streets.

According to an announcement on the CPD’s Facebook page, derelict and abandoned vehicles illegally stored on city streets cause problems for emergency vehicles, snow plows and garbage trucks.

Officers will be tagging illegally parked vehicles with bright orange stickers and will try to contact the owners. Colfax parking ordinance violations can lead to a 30 dollar fine or impoundment. Vehicles with plates that are expired for more than 45 days may be impounded immediately at the owner’s expense.

Colfax PD’s goal is to get voluntary compliance to the city’s parking laws.

Colfax city code limits street parking to a maximum of 48 hours. Washington state law allows for prompt removal of vehicles parked on the street with plates that are expired longer than 45 days.
