WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Friday it will provide $150 million in one-time assistance to American sugar beet and sugar cane producers in response to temporary market disruptions and increased production and processing costs.
According to the USDA, the department will work with sugar processors in the coming months to finalize agreements to distribute payments directly to farmer-members.
In addition to the market-related assistance, USDA is allocating $89.1 million in weather-related disaster funding to sugar beet producers who experienced losses due to excessive heat in 2024. The funding was provided by Congress through the American Relief Act of 2025 and will be administered through eligible beet sugar cooperatives. Producers who are members of those cooperatives are encouraged to contact their organizations for additional information.
USDA said the assistance is intended to support producers facing economic and weather-related challenges.
