LEWISTON, ID – LC State Women’s Tennis, receiving votes in the national poll, hosted a pair of NCAA Division I opponents in the Tennis Center on Saturday. The Warriors fell to Montana 6-1 before a 7-0 loss to Idaho.
MATCH ONE: Montana def. LC State 6-1
Senior Naiara Montero earned a hard-fought singles win to highlight the day for LC State. The Griz won all three doubles matches to clinch the first point of the match.
Montero battled through three sets to earn the victory over her DI opponent in No. 4 singles. She surged out to a 6-2 win in her first set before a loss in the second. She persisted in the third for a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 win.
Gwyn Heim forced a tiebreaker in a tightly contested No. 3 singles match. She was edged 7-6(3) in the first set before a 6-0 loss in the second.
MATCH TWO: Idaho def. LC State 7-0
The Vandals made quick work of doubles action to jump out to a 1-0 lead in the match.
Idaho won five singles matches in straight sets. Rayana Shah forced three frames in her No. 2 singles contest after a 7-5 win in the first frame. A loss in the second forced a tiebreaker set and she ultimately fell 5-7, 6-1, 12-10.
Transfer Lulu Monnayoo won five games in her top singles match. She fell 6-3, 6-2 in her contest.
