LEWISTON, ID –  A 60-year-old man is facing a felony trafficking charge after police reported seizing more than 50 grams of suspected methamphetamine during a traffic stop last week.

According to an affidavit filed in Nez Perce County District Court, Brian K. Roberts was arrested February 19 and charged with one count of trafficking in methamphetamine.

Court documents state that a Lewiston Police officer initiated a traffic stop after first spotting the vehicle at about 2:15 p.m. near mile marker 312 on U.S. Highway 95.  The officer observed a trailer being pulled without a visible license plate and with a malfunctioning brake light. The affidavit alleges the vehicle did not immediately stop and instead slowly pulled into a gas station parking lot before coming to a stop.

Officers reported observing occupants moving around inside the vehicle in what was described as unusual behavior. A K9 unit was requested, and a drug detection dog reportedly alerted to the presence of narcotics near the passenger side of the vehicle.

According to the affidavit, officers searched the vehicle and Roberts’ person. Investigators reported locating a glass pipe with residue in Roberts’ pocket, along with multiple plastic baggies, a digital scale with white residue, additional pipes, and several containers holding suspected methamphetamine inside the vehicle.

The affidavit states that approximately 58.1 grams (total package weight) of presumptive positive methamphetamine were seized. Under Idaho law, trafficking charges may be filed when the amount exceeds 28 grams.

Court documents further allege that Roberts told officers the methamphetamine belonged to him.  Roberts was booked into the Nez Perce County Jail and was expected to make his initial court appearance on Monday afternoon.
