MOAPA, NV – LC State Men’s Golf, receiving votes in the NAIA poll, opened the spring season at the OUAZ Spring Invite at Coyote Springs Golf Course in Moapa, Nev., on Monday. Play was paused due to darkness in the second round with the Warriors in a tie for fourth. Sondre Andresen is currently tied for second through 12 holes of the second round.
LC State shot 308 as a team in the first 18 holes and is 13-over just past the halfway point in the second round. Host No. 14 Ottawa (Ariz.) leads the field and Andresen is one stroke off the lead.
“The score doesn’t reflect it but there was a lot of good golf played today, but this course exposes the smallest of mistakes,” coach Zach Anderson said. “The margin of error is thin, and we found ourselves on the wrong side of that many times. Sondre did a great job today finding the right spots to play from. Proud of the way he battled and excited to see what tomorrow has in store for him.”
Andresen shot an even-par, 72 in round one and has been consistent in round two. He is even through the first 13 holes with five to play in the second round.
Luke West is currently tied for 25th at 11-over. He shot an 81 in the first round and is 2-over through 11 in round two. Lucas Ortega is one stroke behind in a tie for 27th after a 78 in round one.
Senior Kye Krall is tied for 33rd in round two. He carded an 81 in the first 18 holes and is 5-over so far in the second round. Aaron Brown is tied for 35th after a strong start. He shot a 5-over, 77 in the first round but is 10-over through the first 13 holes in the second.
