Belfontali Captures Second Crown of the Season, LC State Women Finish Second in Spring Opener

MOAPA, NV – Giulia Belfontali secured her second straight individual crown on Tuesday as the winner of the OUAZ Spring Invite at Coyote Springs Golf Course. The sophomore, who closed out the fall with a victory at The Warrior Fall Invite, took the spring opener by three strokes in a stacked field and helped (RV) LC State finish second overall.

The Warriors finished with a team score of 101-over, 965 with rounds of 315-333-317 to place second in the field of eight teams. No. 14 Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) took home the team title by 23 strokes, but LC State finished ahead of host Ottawa (Ariz.), Arizona Christian and Victoria (B.C.) who are also receiving votes.

“Really excited for the women and what they were able to do this week,” coach Zach Anderson said. “This course is so different from what we are all used to, but they stayed locked in and battled. Their mental games have grown so much and that is what I am most proud of them for. I am extremely happy to get the spring started off this way.”

Belfontali carded the best round of the tournament with a 2-over, 74 on Tuesday. She finished 13-over with rounds of 78-77-74. This is the third individual win of her career and her first away from the home course.

“Giulia really picked apart the golf course,” Anderson added. “Execution was at an all-time high. Impressive showing in her all-around game. Winning this event with multiple top 50 players in the nation shows that she is capable of winning any event.”

Junior Isabella Barquet earned a spot in the top 10 in a tie for ninth with an 80 on the day. She finished 26-over on the tournament with scores of 76-86-80.

Dallis Shockey and Taylor Mire finished in 14th and 15th place, respectively. Shockey concluded her second round with an 83 before an 85 to close the tournament. She finished 33-over (81-83-85). Mire, who struggled when play resumed in round two, regained her footing for a solid final round to go 80-92-80 for a score of 36-over.

Sophomore Jane Barry rounded out the group in 17th place with a tournament score of 38-over. She had her best round of the week to close things out with scores of 84-87-83.
