CLARKSTON, WA – A second suspect has been arrested in connection with a fraud investigation involving stolen business checks that authorities say were cashed in the Clarkston area.
39-year-old Carisa Fowler was arrested earlier this week in Nez Perce County and extradited to Asotin County on Wednesday. She was booked into the Asotin County Jail on charges of second-degree identity theft, second-degree theft and forgery.
Fowler is one of three suspects charged in the case.
Court documents show 35-year-old Matthew T.D. Fronk was previously arrested and booked into the Asotin County Jail in February on charges of second-degree identity theft, second-degree theft and forgery.
The charges stem from an investigation that began Aug. 1, 2025, when Lewiston police responded to a fraud report involving K and G Construction in Lewiston. The business owner reported receiving a call from Banner Bank in Moscow stating someone was attempting to cash a $4,300 check drawn on the company’s account. The owner then discovered the company’s checkbook had been stolen.
Lewiston Police investigated the report and, using bank records and surveillance footage, identified three suspects — Fronk, Fowler and a third suspect — who allegedly cashed stolen checks in the Clarkston area.
Investigators allege Fowler cashed a check for $937.08 at Lewis-Clark Credit Union, Fronk cashed a check for $973.87 at Banner Bank, and a third suspect cashed a check for $2,256.31 at Banner Bank. Court records state all three transactions occurred in Clarkston.
Fowler appeared in court on Thursday. Bond was set at $15,000.
An arrest warrant has been issued for the third suspect, identified in court documents as April Gustafson.
