OLYMPIA, WA – The Washington State University Regents decision to spend 20 million dollars on athletics was discussed during Thursday’s Faculty Senate meeting.
The board decided to spend a one time 20 million dollar university allocation on the athletics department during their meeting last week. The move for the next fiscal year is intended to be a one time boost to athletics as the Cougars move into a rebuilt Pac-12 Conference this fall.
WSU’s top academic officer Provost T. Chris Riley-Tillman met with the Faculty Senate during their meeting on Thursday. Provost Riley-Tillman fielded questions from faculty members about the WSU regents unique decision to help fund athletics. He told faculty that details haven’t been determined yet but he says programs will not be cut.
Details of how WSU will spend 20 million dollars on athletics won’t be released until the regents approve the fiscal year 2027 budget in May.
