Women’s Golf Delivers Strong Day One Showing at Willamette Valley Cup

SALEM, OR – LC State Women’s Golf, ranked No. 22 on Scoreboard, holds second place after round one of the Willamette Valley Cup at Creekside Golf Course. Junior Isabella Barquet leads the Warrior women in a tie for second with Jane Barry also in the top five.

The Warriors are five strokes back of NCAA Division III George Fox, ranked No. 23 in Scoreboard, and hold a 13-stroke lead on DIII Lewis & Clark College.

“The women had stretches of really solid golf. We definitely left a few shots out there. George Fox is a solid team, just a few years removed from being the national champions, so it’s exciting to be able to compete with them,” coach Zach Anderson said. “Tomorrow should be a great battle and we’ll see if we can come from behind for the win.”

Barquet carded a round of 4-over, 75 to lead LC State after the first 18 holes. She is one stroke off the individual and leads teammate Barry by three strokes. Barry sits in fifth at 7-over.

Senior Dallis Shockey finished round one in a four-way tie for 10th. She, along with freshman Taylor Mire, shot 10-over through the first 18 holes.

Sophomore Giulia Belfontali sits tied for 26th and is 15-over par, and Chase Caruso, playing as an individual, ended the round in 21st at 13-over par.
