SPOKANE, WA – LC State Women’s Tennis, receiving votes in the national poll, traveled up north for a busy Sunday with matches against The College of Idaho and NCAA Division III Whitworth. The Warriors blasted past C of I 7-0 before handling the Pirates 5-2.
MATCH ONE: LC State def. The College of Idaho 7-0
The Warriors jumped out to an early lead over the Yotes after they took the doubles point. Junior duo Lulu Monnayoo and Ana Govea defeated their opponents in No. 1 doubles 6-2. In No. 3 doubles, Carisa Liebenberg and Gwyn Heim continued the dominance as the juniors breezed past their opponents 6-1 to lock down the doubles point for LC State.
The Warrior women impressed in singles play as they didn’t drop a single set throughout the entire match. Govea had the strongest win in No. 5 singles where she dropped only one game in her 6-0, 6-1 victory.
Senior Naiara Montero showed out against her opponent in No. 2 singles. She only dropped one game in each of her two sets. She won the first set 6-1 and duplicated that score with another 6-1 win in the second.
In No. 6 singles, sophomore Sonam Chuki Dorji dominated set one with a 6-0 victory over her opponent. She then followed up in set two with a 6-2 win to secure the match.
MATCH TWO: LC State def. Whitworth 5-2
In No. 2 doubles, Heim and Larissa Couto defeated their opponents 6-3 to give the Warriors a strong start in doubles play. Whitworth claimed victories in No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to secure the doubles point for the Pirates.
Monnayoo blanked her opponent in the top singles match. She won the contest 6-0, 6-0 for an impressive victory without dropping a game.
Heim took her momentum from doubles play into singles action and handled her opponent. She took both sets 6-1 to secure another point for the Warrior women.
In No. 2 singles, Montero won the first set 6-3. After her opponent took the second set, Montero came back with a 6-3 victory in set three to secure the point for the Warriors.
