MOSCOW, ID — The University of Idaho Department of Theatre Arts will present two original student-written plays as part of its First Bite New Play Series, with free virtual readings scheduled over two weekends.
“The Mire” will be performed at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 28, and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 29. “Head of the Family” will follow at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 4, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 5.
The works are written and directed by Master of Fine Arts students and offer audiences a look at scripts in early development.
“The Mire,” written by Trace Davis, explores tension in a marriage complicated by an ex-spouse. “Head of the Family,” written by Laura Byron Wade, follows siblings uncovering secrets tied to their late father in a dark comedy.
The series is produced by U of I alumna Kellie Stonebrook, with MFA student Andrew Okerson serving as technical coordinator.
Following the series, “The Mire” is scheduled for a staged reading in May at the Phoenix Theatre Cultural Centre in Indianapolis through a partnership with the university.
The readings are free, with registration available online.
