MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY — Yellowstone National Park recorded 4,762,988 recreation visits in 2025, according to the National Park Service, marking another strong year for one of the nation’s most visited parks.
The visitation total comes despite a 43-day partial federal government shutdown—the longest on record—which park officials said created challenges but did not stop efforts to keep Yellowstone accessible when possible.
In addition to total visits, the park reported more than 86.8 million visitor hours spent inside Yellowstone and nearly 1.24 million overnight stays throughout the year.
Officials say visitation data helps guide how parks are managed, including decisions aimed at maintaining visitor experience and protecting natural resources. Yellowstone remains part of a broader system of more than 400 national park sites across the country that collectively draw millions of visitors annually.
The National Park Service publishes detailed visitation trends through its online dashboard, which tracks use across all parks and helps inform long-term planning efforts.
