$30 million allocated for Lewiston Orchards irrigation project in federal water funding package

LEWISTON, ID — A federal water infrastructure package will direct $30 million to the Lewiston Orchards Irrigation District (LOID) as part of a broader $889 million investment across Western states, according to the U.S. Department of the Interior.

The funding will support a conveyance and pump storage project in northern Idaho aimed at improving water delivery systems tied to the Clearwater River.

The investment is part of legislation signed in 2025 that provides long-term funding for Bureau of Reclamation projects to expand water conveyance and storage capacity across the West through 2034.

In a statement shared on social media, U.S. Rep. Russ Fulcher said the funding would support construction of a new water intake and conveyance system for the Lewiston Orchards area.

“This funding will support the construction of a new water intake and conveyance system from the Clearwater River, ensuring a strong, reliable water supply for the Lewiston Orchards area for years to come,” Fulcher said.

Interior officials said the broader funding package is intended to strengthen water infrastructure, support agriculture and improve water supply reliability across Western communities.
