LEWISTON, ID – A 20-year-old Lewiston man faces a felony charge after police say an investigation into a reported inappropriate message to a minor led to his arrest earlier this month.
According to court documents, Caden N. Kazda is charged with sexual abuse of a child under the age of 16, a felony.
Court documents state the investigation began after school officials contacted the Lewiston Police Department regarding a report that a 10-year-old student received an inappropriate message through Snapchat. Authorities were provided a screenshot of the message, which was included as part of the investigation.
The affidavit indicates officers interviewed the minor, school staff, and Kazda, and reviewed digital evidence including message timing and account activity. Investigators noted the content of the message and the age of the recipient raised concern and formed the basis for the charge.
According to the affidavit, Kazda acknowledged sending the message but told investigators it was sent accidentally and intended for another person. The document states investigators found inconsistencies between that explanation and the evidence gathered during the investigation.
Based on the findings, law enforcement determined there was probable cause to believe a criminal offense had occurred. Kazda was arrested and booked into the Nez Perce County Jail on Wednesday. He is expected to make his initial court appearance on Wednesday afternoon.
