Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Mike Crapo of Idaho joined a bipartisan group of lawmakers in advancing a resolution designating March 21, 2026, as “National Women in Agriculture Day,” recognizing the role of women across the nation’s agricultural industry.
The resolution, led by Senators Joni Ernst of Iowa and Tina Smith of Minnesota, was unanimously approved by the U.S. Senate. It acknowledges more than 1.2 million women producers in the United States and their contributions as farmers, educators, innovators and leaders.
Crapo said women have long played a key role in shaping the country’s agricultural history and continue to contribute to the strength of rural communities and the broader food system.
Lawmakers from multiple states voiced support for the designation, pointing to the impact women have on family farms, agribusiness, research and rural economies. Several senators also noted the importance of recognizing women’s work during both Women’s History Month and National Agriculture Week.
The resolution highlights the wide-ranging influence of women in agriculture, from managing operations and supporting local economies to advancing innovation and education in the industry.
An identical resolution has also been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives.
