REDDING, CA – LC State Men’s Golf holds a seven-stroke lead as a team and Adam Lovatt is tied for second after the first two rounds of the Simpson Spring Invitational on Monday.
The Warriors had a strong first round with a team total of 6-under-par before a 3-over in the second 18 holes. LC State leads host Simpson (Calif.) by seven strokes and is nine strokes ahead of NCAA Division II Jessup.
Lovatt carded the best round by a Warrior this season with a 7-under, 65, through his first 18 holes. He had five birdies and an eagle to highlight the first round before a 3-over in round two.
“Solid start to the event,” coach Zach Anderson said. “Nice to build a lead with how we played round one. An awesome round of golf by Adam. Impressive seeing the growth he has shown throughout these past few weeks. Second round we just leaked shots coming in, so we missed a great opportunity to widen the margin. Great to have the lead, but going to have to play some really solid golf to close it out tomorrow. Excited for the opportunity to battle for a win.”
Luke West shot a 1-over, 73, in round one and shaved three strokes off in the second 18 holes with a 2-under, 70. He is tied for seventh with a 1-under total.
Kye Krall and Andrea Artusini are tied for 12th with matching scores of 1-over-par. The duo shot even-par, 72 in the first round before a 1-over, 73 to end the day.
Senior Sondre Andresen is in 19th place at 5-over through 36 holes with rounds of 74-75. Jaxon Moon, competing as an individual, is tied for 30th. He started the day with a stellar round of 3-under, 69 before an 83 in round two.
