Lewiston Woman Charged With Felony After Alleged Marijuana Shipment Discovered at FedEx Facility

LEWISTON, ID – A 59-year-old Lewiston woman faces a felony charge after police say a package containing marijuana was discovered at a local shipping facility.

According to court documents, Lauralee L. Mitchell is charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver following a Lewiston Police Department investigation.

Police say employees at a FedEx shipping center in Lewiston reported a suspicious package after it was damaged during handling and emitted a marijuana odor. The affidavit states suspected marijuana was found inside.

Officers responded and inspected the package, allegedly finding multiple baggies and marijuana joints, along with other items. The report documented the total package weight of the marijuana at over 120 grams.

According to the affidavit, the package listed Mitchell as the return sender and was addressed to an individual in Oregon. Investigators later contacted Mitchell, who allegedly confirmed she had shipped the package earlier that day.

Court documents state Mitchell initially said the package contained only candles. The affidavit further alleges she told officers she knew sending marijuana was illegal and said she was attempting to help a relative.

Mitchell was taken into custody and booked into the Nez Perce County Jail.  She is expected to make her initial court appearance on Tuesday afternoon.
