Idaho veterans with disabilities eligible for property tax reduction, April 15 deadline

BOISE, ID— Some Idaho veterans with disabilities may qualify for a property tax reduction of up to $1,500 on their primary residence, according to the Idaho State Tax Commission.

The benefit applies to a veteran’s home and up to one acre of land. Eligible applicants must file by April 15 to receive the reduction for 2026.

To qualify, veterans must meet two main criteria: they must be recognized as 100% service-connected disabled or receive 100% compensation due to individual unemployability through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as of Jan. 1, 2026, and they must own and live in their Idaho home as their primary residence before the April deadline.

The property must also have a current homeowner’s exemption, though mobile homes are eligible.

There is no income limit for the program. Applicants are required to provide documentation from the VA confirming their disability rating or compensation status.

Most veterans must apply each year, but those with permanent and total disabilities may have their benefit automatically renewed.

Applications can be submitted online through the Tax Commission’s website or filed with a local county assessor’s office.

Officials note that the program reduces property taxes only and does not apply to other charges such as solid waste, irrigation, or similar fees.
