LEWISTON, ID — The Lewiston Fire Department responded to a structure fire Thursday morning at a carwash building on 21st Street.
Crews were dispatched at approximately 11:22 a.m. to 1617 21st Street, where callers reported a fire at the carwash located at Joe Hall Ford. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from an exterior wall and the eaves of the building.
Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control before cutting into the wall to check for any extension of the fire. Officials said the attic space was clear, and smoke ventilated naturally.
The fire was determined to be accidental, caused by weed burning in the area using a propane torch, according to the department.
Damage is estimated at about $50,000. No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported.
A total of 21 personnel responded, including three fire engines, three ambulances, two fire investigators and four chief officers.
