LEWISTON, ID — A woman is facing felony drug charges after methamphetamine was found in her vehicle during a traffic stop, according to a recently filed affidavit in Nez Perce County District Court.
Court documents identify the defendant as Sarah C. Smith, 43. She has been charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession with intent to deliver, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the affidavit, an Idaho State Police trooper stopped Smith on March 27 after observing a vehicle with a cracked windshield traveling above the posted speed limit. The stop occurred in the area of 22nd Street and 3rd Avenue North.
During the interaction, the trooper reported that Smith appeared extremely nervous and displayed physical signs that, based on training and experience, were consistent with possible drug use. A K9 unit was requested and later conducted an exterior sniff of the vehicle, where the dog alerted near the driver’s side door, according to the affidavit.
Authorities then searched the vehicle and reported locating a glass container holding three small bags of a crystalline substance. The substance was later identified by the trooper as methamphetamine.
The affidavit states Smith was taken into custody at the scene. Additional items, including a glass pipe with residue, were later recovered at the jail, according to court documents.
Investigators reported the total weight of the suspected methamphetamine was approximately 25.2 grams and was packaged in multiple baggies. Based on the quantity and packaging, the trooper indicated it was consistent with distribution rather than personal use.
