BOISE, ID — With the April 15 tax deadline approaching, the Idaho State Tax Commission is offering guidance to help residents file accurately and avoid delays.
In a news release issued April 2, the agency outlined six tips aimed at reducing errors and speeding up refunds.
Officials encourage taxpayers to take advantage of new deductions, including increased standard and senior deductions, along with deductions for tips, car loan interest and overtime pay. Those who filed early may need to amend their return to claim some of the changes.
The agency recommends filing electronically to reduce errors and receive refunds faster, especially with direct deposit. Many Idahoans may also qualify for free online filing or in-person assistance through volunteer tax preparation sites.
Taxpayers are urged to review returns carefully, as missing or incorrect information can delay processing. Officials also advise responding promptly to any letters requesting additional details, as all returns are reviewed before refunds are issued.
Tips include:
- Take advantage of new deductions
- File electronically
- Check for free e-filing options
- Use free in-person help if needed
- Ensure all information is accurate
- Respond promptly to Tax Commission requests
