LEWISTON, ID — A nonprofit organization has been established to oversee development of a fiber-optic broadband network in the Lewiston area, according to the Port of Lewiston and Pivot-Tech Development.
The organization, Confluence Fiber Communications, will manage the network’s construction and long-term operations. A Board of Directors and Community Advisory Group have been appointed to provide oversight.
The network is planned as an open-access system, allowing multiple providers to offer service over the same infrastructure. The project is expected to be funded through revenue bonds, which are typically repaid through subscriber fees rather than taxes.
The phased buildout is expected to reach thousands of homes and businesses, though a full construction timeline has not been released.
The project is part of broader efforts across the region to expand broadband access, with officials pointing to potential economic and service impacts as development moves forward.
