SPOKANE, WA — A man wanted in Iowa on multiple child sex crime charges was arrested in Spokane this week by the U.S. Marshals Service Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force.
Authorities said the suspect, identified as Obet Jally, was taken into custody April 1 near downtown Spokane. He was wanted out of Dubuque County, Iowa, where a felony warrant had been issued days earlier.
According to the U.S. Marshals Service, the charges include sexual exploitation of a minor, two counts of enticing a minor under 16 for sexual purposes, and prostitution. Bail in the Iowa case was set at $100,000.
Officials said Jally was booked into the Spokane County Jail and is awaiting further court proceedings, including extradition to Iowa.
“The U.S. Marshals Service places the highest priority on locating and apprehending fugitives accused of crimes against children,” U.S. Marshal Craig Thayer said in a statement. “We remain committed to working alongside our law enforcement partners to help ensure those accused of serious offenses are found and brought before the court.”
The arrest involved members of the U.S. Marshals-led task force, along with assistance from U.S. Border Patrol and the Washington State Department of Corrections.
The Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force includes federal, state and local law enforcement agencies across Washington, Oregon and Alaska and focuses on locating and arresting high-risk fugitives.
