COLFAX, WA — An inmate at the Whitman County jail was found unresponsive early Sunday morning, prompting an emergency response and ongoing investigation.
According to a media release from the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office, a corrections officer discovered the inmate during routine rounds in the early hours of April 5. Life-saving measures were immediately started, and emergency medical services were called to the facility.
Despite those efforts, the inmate was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said a full investigation is now underway. The Whitman County Coroner’s Office will determine the exact cause and manner of death.
