WEIPPE, ID — A six-year-old child died early Monday morning in a house fire near Weippe, according to the Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office.

Emergency crews responded at approximately 3:13 a.m. on April 6 to a residential fire on Rock Pit Road. Responding agencies included the sheriff’s office, Timberline Rescue, Weippe Fire Department and Pierce Fire Department.

Officials said the single-wide trailer was fully engulfed in flames when first responders arrived. Four people — two adults and two children — were reportedly inside the home when the fire was discovered. Three occupants were able to escape.

Firefighters later located the body of a six-year-old child inside the residence.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office and the Idaho State Fire Marshal. No additional details have been released.
