Nez Perce Drive closure begins April 13 on University of Idaho campus

MOSCOW, ID — A section of Nez Perce Drive on the University of Idaho campus will close to through traffic beginning Monday, April 13, as part of a construction project aimed at improving pedestrian safety and upgrading utilities.

The work is funded through the State of Idaho Permanent Building Fund and will include roadway repairs, wider sidewalks, raised crosswalks and changes to on-street parking designed to slow vehicle traffic.

Beginning April 13, Nez Perce Drive will be fully closed to through traffic from the University House driveway entrance east to the Walenta Path trail and the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. In the segment between Alpha Gamma Rho and Blake Avenue, the north side of the roadway will be closed and on-street parking will be removed. Two-way local access will remain in that area, though drivers should expect limited circulation.

Starting May 18, the closure will expand, with Nez Perce Drive fully closed to all through traffic from the University House driveway east to Blake Avenue.

Construction will take place in phases and is expected to continue into the fall. While some portions of the road may temporarily reopen for delivery access, officials say the roadway should be considered closed through September.

Drivers are encouraged to follow posted detours, which will direct traffic to alternate campus routes or to nearby highways, including U.S. Route 95 and Idaho State Highway 8. Students, employees and visitors should plan for delays and allow extra travel time when traveling through the area.
