WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a nationwide public health alert for various meat and poultry products that may contain dairy ingredients linked to a recall over possible salmonella contamination.

According to the alert, the affected products were made using FDA-regulated dairy ingredients, including dry milk powder, that were previously recalled. Federal officials said additional products could be identified as the investigation continues and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

The issue came to light after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration notified FSIS that multiple regulated facilities had received the recalled dairy ingredient. A full list of impacted products, including distribution details and labels, has been made available by the agency.

Salmonella can cause an infection known as salmonellosis, with symptoms that may include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within six hours to six days after exposure. Most cases resolve without treatment, but severe illness can occur, particularly in older adults, young children, and those with weakened immune systems.

As of the latest update, no confirmed illnesses have been reported in connection with the products.

FSIS is urging consumers not to eat the affected items and to either discard them or return them to the place of purchase. Retailers are also advised not to sell or serve the products.
