LC State Tennis Earns Seven CSC Academic All-District Honors

GREENWOOD, IN – Seven LC State Tennis players earned CSC Academic All-District honors, announced by College Sports Communicators on Tuesday. Gautam Balakrishnan, Pablo Herrera, Giacomo Moreira and Nell Rollin represented the Warrior men while Gwyn Heim, Carisa Liebenberg and Rayana Shah were tabbed award winners for the women.

 

The award recognizes student-athletes who excel both in the classroom and in the field of play. To be eligible, student-athletes must compete in 90% of a team’s contests, must hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher and be at least a sophomore in standing. A maximum of four players is selected per program for the competitive award.

 

“Making the CSC Academic All-District team is always very commendable as an athlete,” coach Kai Fong said. “This group has been consistent with their academic performance. They continue to keep the bar high.”

 

Balakrishnan was the top doubles player for LC State this season with an impressive 10-2 record. He went 10-1 at third doubles and was 4-0 when paired with freshman Leonel Gatti. The sophomore earned six singles victories and had a 4-1 record at No. 3 singles. He maintains a 3.93 grade point average as an exercise science major.

 

Herrera earned five singles wins throughout the season and went 3-2 at No. 3 singles. He paired primarily with Moreira in doubles play and earned seven victories in the top spot during the season. Herrera holds a 3.69 GPA while studying business management.

 

Moreira went 7-7 in singles play with a 4-4 record in the fourth slot. The sophomore went 7-6 in doubles action with three wins in No. 1 doubles and three in the third spot. Moreira is studying business administration and holds a 3.78 grade point average.

 

Rollin was second on the team in doubles victories with eight on the season and was 6-3 in No. 2 doubles, primarily paired with Rafael Bonnet de Larbogne. The junior earned six singles wins and was 3-0 at No. 2 singles. Rollin leads the Warriors with a 3.97 grade point average as a double major in business management and sport management.

 

On the women’s side, Heim was second on the team in singles wins with a 10-9 record. She was 5-4 in No. 3 singles and 6-5 in doubles action. When paired with Liebenberg, Heim was 3-2 in No. 3 doubles. Heim is studying radiographic science and maintains a 3.95 GPA.

 

Liebenberg tied with Heim with 10 singles wins including a 4-1 record in the fourth spot. She earned four doubles victories in the No. 3 doubles slot. She is an active member of the LC State Association of Student-Athletes and has a 3.96 grade point average as an anthropology major.

 

Shah, an All-GSAC selection this season, went 3-1 in No. 1 singles play and had seven singles victories overall. The junior went 5-9 in doubles action including a 3-3 mark in No. 3 doubles. She maintains a perfect 4.0 grade point average as a biology major.
